Tuchel: ‘All for one and one for all’

On the eve of the Ligue 1 match away to Guingamp, Paris Saint-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel spoke to the media at the traditional pre-match press conference…

THE SQUAD
Layvin Kurzawa, Edinson Cavani and Marco Verratti a still not ready yet. They won’t travel. The rest of the squad is fine and we will see after training today which players are in the best condition for the game.

KYLIAN MBAPPE
Two years ago with Borussia Dortmund, he caused me a lot of problems. I’m very happy that today he is in my team. He has just returned from winning the World Cup, so now he has a lot more experience. I expect him to continue his progression this season. We have to make sure he stays hungry for winning, that he stays focused on his football and keeps his head on his shoulders, that he keeps growing, despite everything he has already won. He is a real competitor, he wanted to play last Sunday but I wanted to wait a little. We will see after training if he is ready to play against Guingamp.

THREE GOALKEEPERS
I haven’t decided yet what I’m going to do. I will talk to our three goalkeepers and the coaching staff of course. I’m not a big fan of playing different goalkeepers in different competitions. A goalkeeper needs to be 100% focused at all times. Denying a goalkeeper the possibility to play in one competition or another isn’t necessarily a good thing. Maybe we need to consider turnover and maybe that will be the solution.

THILO KEHRER
With Thilo, we have signed a very versatile player, capable of playing every position in midfield and also in midfield in front of the defence. Our aim is to improve the squad and keep it as competitive as possible. If we need other players to reach our objectives, we will look for them. Thilo is a very talented player, very strong and technical. We have to see how quickly he can adapt. He trained for the first time yesterday and today’s session will be more intense. We will decide if he travels with us to Guingamp.

TEAM VS INDIVIDUALS
I think you can have the best players in the world on the pitch, but if you don’t have the right team spirit, you can never win. The players don’t even need to ask the question… they all know that if they want to win individual awards, they have to win trophies with their club. On the pitch, the players know very well that it’s all for one and one for all, that the individual is never more important than the team.
