Tuchel: 'A big lesson for us'

Find out what the Paris Saint-Germain camp had to say after the BKT Coupe de la Ligue quarter-final loss to Guingamp:

Thomas Tuchel (Paris Saint-Germain coach)
We had the chance to kill off the match with a second goal and we didn’t do that. And we had already opened the scoring after the first penalty for the opposition and it was already a bit too late. We were very good after their first penalty, but once we scored we took our foot off the gas. We were over confident. We thought nothing could touch us and it doesn’t work like that. Every match is difficult. I say that all the time and tonight we saw that it’s true. You have to work hard to deserve to win a match, you have to have the right mentality and we didn’t have it tonight. We are missing a few players and tonight is a big lesson for us.

Marquinhos (Paris Saint-Germain defender)
It’s a real blow. We didn’t just lose a match but the chance to win a trophy. We lost at home and we know how strong we are here and now we have to analyse what happened. I don’t think we really deserved to win, even if I think the referee made a mistake with the second penalty. It’s not easy to give three penalties to the opposition here at the Parc. But we have to analyse our own game, learn from our mistakes because we have some big challenges coming up. We have taken a little step backwards tonight to see what we need to do better. We can’t just play with our name and our jersey; we have to play with our quality and our strengths, like we have this season. It’s a good lesson for us and we need to bounce back and rebuild our confidence.

Marco Verratti (Paris Saint-Germain midfielder)
We wanted to reach the semi-finals but we came up short. It was a strange match. We could have avoided giving away three penalties with a bit more concentration. We should have killed the game off and not given them the chance to come back into the game.
