Tradition respected for captain Marquinhos's 400th game!
It’s a habit that the Paris fans enjoy – Marquinhos yesterday celebrated his 400th Rouge et Bleu appearance with a 2-0 win away to Nice and another victory in a landmark game for him since he joined Paris Saint-Germain nearly ten years ago.
With 400 appearances under his belt, Les Rouge et Bleu's captain becomes the third Paris player to reach this symbolic figure, following Jean-Marc Pilorget (435 appearances) and teammate Marco Verratti (409 appearances).
On 17th September 2013, against Olympiacos, the Brazilian defender made a thunderous start, scoring on his debut in the UEFA Champions League encounter in Greece.
With competition in central defence from compatriots Alex and David Luiz, it took Marquinhos two-and-a-half years to reach the 100-appearance mark with another win in Europe, this time beating Chelsea 2-1 at the Parc des Princes and eventually getting past the Blues in the last 16 of the competition.
An undisputed starter alongside Thiago Silva at this point, 'Marqui' reached the milestone of 200 appearances at the end of the 2017–2018 season, when he lifted the Coupe de France in Saint-Denis after beating Les Herbiers 2-0 on 8th May 2018.
100 games later, it was to be another great memory for Les Rouge et Bleu's new captain as he once again came out victorious on his 300th appearance and lifted the Trophée des Champions after beating Marseille 2-1 on 13th January 2021 in Lens.
Last night, Paris Saint-Germain again came out on top in a potential title decider against Nice. We'll see you in two-and-a-half years' time for Marqui's 500th game and another win!
