Tough night at the office

Highlights:
It was a new-look Paris Saint-Germain with Loic Mbe Soh at right-back and Abdou Diallo and Presnel Kimpembe in the centre of defence that started the match. Leandro Paredes, making his first start of the season, saw his half-volley flash just wide from 25m out (9') and Neymar Jr's free-kick curled inches wide of the left-hand upright (27') before Reims stunned the Parc des Princes just before the half hour, when Kamara headed the visitors in front (0-1, 29'). There was to be no fourth consecutive clean sheet for Keylor Navas, and things got a little worse when Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was forced off with injury, replaced by Angel Di Maria (41'). The Argentine international was quickly into the action (44', 45+2'), but it was Yunis Abdelhamid that almost doubled Reims' lead just before the break (45+1').

After a difficult first 45 minutes, (7 shots at goal), Paris Saint-Germain continued to struggle against a Reims side that continued to play out of their skins. Di Maria created another two chances (55', 58'), but Rajkovic and his rear-guard resisted. With each passing minute, Reims sat deeper and deeper, and as Paris pushed for the equaliser, it was the visitors that found space on the counterattack, through Cafaro (74') and then Oudin, who hit the post (78').
Les Rouge et Bleu kept coming... Di Maria was denied by a desperate Abdelhamid block (82') and then Rajkovic (86'). Deep in stoppage time, Reims got their second of the night when Dia acrobatically fired home his side's second (0-2, 90+4')…

Above and beyond the result, it was a truly bad night at the office. The team lacked creativity, and no-less-than nine regular first-team players as well. Undefeated in their last 22 Ligue 1 home matches before this evening (20 wins, 2 draws), there was another record that fell tonight with Paris failing to score for a record 45 Ligue 1 match in a row (63 matches in a row in all competitions).
Tonight, it was Reims that scored a huge upset against a Paris Saint-Germain side that, all the same, remain top of the Ligue 1 standings on goal difference ahead of Angers. The capital club must now bounce back this Saturday away to Bordeaux...
