Thomas Tuchel: 'We worked well'

Thomas Tuchel, Sergio Rico, Thomas Meunier and Mauro Icardi all discussed Paris Saint-Germain's 6-1 victory over Saint-Étienne on Wednesday 8 January at the Parc des Princes in the quarter finals of the Coupe de la Ligue.

Thomas Tuchel (Paris Saint-Germain coach)
"We worked well, we lacked a bit of rhythm at the start of the match, and that is to be expected after a two week break. But then, we found our rhythm, we didn't make silly mistakes, we played fluidly and we were able to create chances and score goals. At 3-0 at half-time and with an extra man, it was the right moment to go and play in the opposition's half. It was a good match to have possession in, to counter press, to gain in intensity and not ease off in our work. The team managed that. The four forwards? There is a good level of complicity between them, they look for each other in the best positions. It's good that they like playing together. And then there's also Cavani, Draxler, Sarabia and Choupo-Mouting, who are capable of pushing and playing with the same spirit and intensity. Attacking together, defending together, the team is doing this well at the moment."

Sergio Rico (Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper)
"For me, the preparation remains the same, no matter which opponent we are facing. Against amateurs or professionals, you need to be at 100% in every match. The team stayed focussed in every moment and played at a high level tonight. The result is proof of that. We dominated the match. We were better than our opponent. I was able to get some game time thanks to the domestic cups. It's good for me, it allowed me to build my confidence."

Thomas Meunier (Paris Saint-Germain defender)
"We were professional and committed until the end, that's what I want to highlight. At half-time, the message was fairly clear and short, that three goals is good, but if we can go and score six, it's better. We continued our good form, we conceded a clumsy goal from a penalty, but for the rest, we wanted to kill off the opposition and that's what we did. When you see our bench and the potential that we have, everyone is able to play on the pitch, everyone wants to show that competition is healthy and that we have the quality to make the difference, be that with the youngsters or the more experienced players."

Mauro Icardi (Paris Saint-Germain forward)
"The most important thing is to have played as a team. We played for one and other. The team won and scored lots of goals. That's the most important thing. I am very happy to have scored this hat-trick and to have picked up an assist. It was my first match of the year after the holidays. The team had already played very well in the Coupe de France and starting the year well was important. We did it in the best way possible."
