Thomas Tuchel: 'Here to show that we want to win'

On the eve of Matchday 2 of the Group Stages of the UEFA Champions League against Istanbul Basaksehir, on Wednesday 28 October at 18:55 (in France, 20:55 in Turkey) at Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadyumu, the Paris Saint-Germain coach answered questions from the media. Highlights.

ISTANBUL BASAKSEHIR

"This match won't kick off our season, because we have already won six Ligue 1 matches, which is a great performance. Nobody can say any different. But it could kick off our season in the Champions League, that's for sure. We are always demanding of ourselves, our expectations are very high. This will be our second match and we are yet to pick up a point. The match against Manchester United has to remind us that being ready to win is essential. We will face the Turkish champions, a team with experience and quality. We are missing some players, but we also have a lot of quality and confidence. We lost against Manchester United after a difficult match, but we are here to show that we want to win and we are capable of playing a lot better than we did last week."

MARQUINHOS IN MIDFIELD

"Against Dijon, it was a decision made for the team and not against somebody. I thought a lot because I really like what Marquinhos does for us in midfield. I get the feeling that it's more important for us that he plays in that role. On Wednesday, he will therefore play in midfield to help us to win the match."

POLITICS

"We aren't worried. I am sad that living together in harmony isn't possible. Everybody wishes that it would be the case. So I am a bit sad, but not worried. We haven't spoken to the players about the situation for the moment. I will think about it, maybe we will talk to them because we aren't just sportsmen, we live together in the world. It's a strange situation, we will think about clarifying it, but not too much. We need to focus on the sporting side of the game. We are privileged to be able to continue the season and play in the Champions League."
