Thomas Tuchel: 'An exceptional mentality'
Thomas Tuchel, Alphonse Areola, Thiago Silva, Leandro Paredes and Kylian Mbappé all gave their thoughts on the 1-0 win at Saint-Étienne on Sunday.
Thomas Tuchel (Paris Saint-Germain coach)
"It's a great win, because the team showed an exceptional mentality. We stayed in the game in psychological terms. It wasn't easy, because we didn't score in the first half, from our initial chances. After the break, we also had chances without luck until Kylian's goal. It was necessary to defend together and to show that attitude. I'm very happy, it's a great win."
Alphonse Areola (Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper)
"It was a tight match, Saint-Étienne defended well. We found the solution thanks to Kylian's great goal. We're all happy with the result. We were solid and we won, so we're happy. Kylian's goal? I think that if I try that, I'll pull a muscle! Seriously, it was a great volley into the top corner. It was unstoppable!"
Thiago Silva (Paris Saint-Germain defender)
"After Manchester, it was of course difficult to keep going. So I'm happy with the win. Winning here against this team is always tough. They play very well at home. We were very focussed, from the first to the last minute. I would like to congratulate everyone, because it has been a great week. A new one starts tomorrow, we have to keep going with this same attitude."
Leandro Paredes (Paris Saint-Germain midfielder)
"It was a tough game on a tricky pitch. The most important thing was to have won. It was my first Ligue 1 start and I felt good. I'm getting up to speed little by little."
Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint-Germain forward)
"We played against a good team, especially at home. They gave their all and played with heart in front of their fans. They also tried to play football, but the pitch was tricky for both teams. There won't be a lot of teams that will come here to win, we did that, so we're happy. We have to keep going and aim as high as possible. My goal? Dani Alves gave me a good pass, I played it on instinct and put it in the top corner." Speaking to Canal+
