Thiago Silva: 'Give as much as possible for this team'

Paris Saint-Germain captain Thiago Silva joins us to take a look back at the 2017-18 quadruple winning season.

Thiago, the season began with the Trophée des Champions, against an AS Monaco side that had taken the Ligue 1 title just a few weeks earlier...
"In that match, more than the trophy itself, there was a double motivation. The Ligue 1 title, it was ours, and we lost it to a very good Monaco side that had a great season. So to start the new campaign against them in the Trophée des Champions... We were really wanted it and it showed on the pitch with our 2-1 win."

During the summer mercato, Paris brought in four new players with Yuri Berchiche, Dani Alves, Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappé who all appeared to settle very quickly...
"I think when you bring in quality, experienced players like that, that don't that long to settle in. Dani Alves and Neymar Jr felt at home very quickly. It looked as though we'd all been playing together for five years already. Each new player added a lot of quality to the team and we made a great start to the term."

The team made a great start in the Champions League with some wins against quality opposition...
"With the games we played against teams like Celtic (0-5) and Bayern Munich (4-0), we had the feeling we could do well this year. We played very well in the group stage of the Champions League, but unfortunately we didn't reach the quarter-finals after our loss to Real Madrid. But we had a really great game against Bayern Munich at the Parc des Princes. We showed that we have the potential to go further. That's football, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. But you have to stay cool, be patient. It's never easy being eliminated from that competition, but the squad bounced back well and everyone gave as much as possible for this team right to the end of the campaign."

On a national level, the season finished with the quadruple and once again, you let one of your teammates lift the Ligue 1 trophy...
"Thiago Motta deserved it! He deserved to lift the trophy after the career he has had. It was a nice image for the club and a nice moment for him. I did the same as I had done with Ibrahimovic, Papus Camara, Maxwell… and I hope it will always be a great memory for him."

Finally, Edinson Cavani ended the season as Ligue 1 top scorer and also the club's all-time top scorer... everyone must be very proud!
"We call him El Matador, don't we? Everyone calls him that here because he's our goal scorer. Now that he is the club's all-time top scorer we are all delighted for him. He is a very important player for us. When things are tough, he is there for us. We have to keep helping him score. He doesn't score goals all by himself, the whole team works hard, the midfielders give him quality balls and the defenders and goalkeepers all had great seasons... It's great to play in a team like this!"
