In the starting line-up against Rennes, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti won his seventh Trophée des Champions. The Italy international is the only Paris player to have played in the last seven editions of the trophy, winning them all and further extending his own record.

Paris Saint-Germain won their ninth Trophée des Champions (1995, 1998, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019), extending their own national record. They have also become the first side to win seven consecutive titles, bettering Lyon record of six between 2002 and 2007.

Since joining the club in the summer of 2015, the Paris No.11 has netted 39 goals in Ligue 1, 11 in the Coupe de France, seven in the Coupe de la Ligue, three in the Trophée des Champions and ten in the UEFA Champions League. The Argentina international has also been directly involved in 11 goals in his last nine matches in all competitions for Paris (seven goals, four assists). He has scored four direct free-kicks in 2019 for Les Rouge et Bleu from nine attempts.
