The Parisians in the World Cup Round of 16

A number of Paris Saint-Germain players have been involved in the World Cup Round of 16 ties.

KYLIAN MBAPPÉ - FRANCE

Kylian Mbappé helped France through to the quarter-finals with a 3-1 win against Poland at the Al Thumama Stadium on Sunday. The Paris Saint-Germain number 7 teed up the opening goal and then scored twice himself to earn Player of the Match honours for the third time in four games. He's now the competition's leading scorer with five goals, and he's the first player in history to score nine World Cup goals before his 24th birthday. With ten goals scored by their players so far, Paris Saint-Germain are the most prolific club in the tournament.

Mbappé now has 33 goals for France, moving him to seventh on his country's all-time scoring list and he's now just two behind Zinédine Zidane. He's netted 52 times in 52 competitive games in 2022 making the 2018 world champion the leading scorer in the calendar year. Next up is a quarter-final against England at the Al Bayt Stadium on Sunday (kick-off 8pm CEST).

NUNO MENDES / DANILO PEREIRA / VITINHA - PORTUGAL

Paris Saint-Germain's Portuguese trio Nuno Mendes, Danilo Pereira & Vitinha are also through to the last eight following Tuesday's 6-1 win over Switzerland in Lusail. While the first two of the three watched from the stands, the third came off the bench. They now take on Achraf Hakimi's Morocco at the Al Thumama Stadium on Saturday (4pm CEST).

ACHRAF HAKIMI - MoROCco

Achraf Hakimi chipped in the decisive penalty as Morocco progressed at the expense of Spain and Hakimi's club teammates, Carlos Soler & Pablo Sarabia (0-0 a.e.t, 3-0 pens.) at the Education City Stadium on Tuesday. The Rouge-et-Bleu full-back started the whole game before holding his nerve in the shoot-out. He now takes on yet more club teammates in Saturday's quarter-final against Portugal.

CARLOS SOLER / PABLO SARABIA - SPAIN

Carlos Soler and Pablo Sarabia saw their World Cup end on Tuesday with both coming off the bench during the loss to Morocco.

LIONEL MESSI - ARGENTINA

Lionel Messi helped Argentina win 2-1 against Australia on Saturday at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium. Captaining his nation, he made the 1000th appearance of his career, and won the Player of the Match honours. The Netherlands are the Albiceleste's next opponents in Friday's quarter-final in Lusail (8pm CEST).

MARQUINHOS / NEYMAR JR - BRAzIL

Marquinhos and Neymar Jr picked up a quarter-final ticket with a 4-1 win over South Korea at Stadium 974 on Monday. The Paris Saint-Germain duo both started the game with Neymar Jr returning to action after injury. He netted his 76th Brazil goal to edge to within one of Pele's national record. Named Player of the Match, the number 10 is the fourth Parisian to achieve the feat with seven such awards going to Rouge-et-Bleu players since the start of the competition (Kylian Mbappé x3, Lionel Messi x2 & Achraf Hakimi), which is also a record. The next step comes against Croatia on Friday (8pm CEST).
