The Parisians get the job done against Angers

Match reports

Paris Saint-Germain beat Angers on the 18th match day of Ligue 1, regaining their lead at the top of the league (2-0). A look back at the match.

After an enjoyable interlude in the Coupe de France, our Parisians returned to their home ground to get back to Ligue 1 duties. It was Angers, the bottom side, who came to the Parc des Princes in an atmosphere as passionate as ever. For the occasion, Christophe Galtier had put together a reshuffled line-up, with Leo Messi and Neymar Jr back in action to support Hugo Ekitike up front.

Faced with an opponent determined to make it as difficult as possible for their opponents, the Red and Blue quickly grew into the game: technical quality, collective fluidity, defensive rigour and offensive creativity were all on show. Carried by the inventiveness of the Messi-Neymar tandem, our Parisians ensured that the visitors would not see much of the ball. It was only a matter of time before they took the lead. After Nordi Mukiele's overlap after a Leo Messi pass, Hugo Ekitike was quicker than his markers, unleashing a perfect shot into the back of the net (1-0, 5').

The Red and Blue continued to apply the pressure, making numerous inroads into the opposition's box, both in open play and from set-pieces, like with Sergio Ramos' powerful header (23'), Leo Messi's brilliant shot (32'), or another effort from Hugo Ekitike (58'), all of which were saved by Bernardoni.

Christophe Galtier's men continued to dominate possession after the hour mark and continued to look for opportunities against an Angevine team that did not give up and continued to pose a threat on the counter. But an inspired Leo Messi still had to leave his mark on the game. The Argentinian magician started a move in the middle of the park, before a one-two with Nordi Mukiele and a cute finish (2-0, 73'). The scoreline could have been added to after another exceptional move, with Neymar Jr's swivel shot from a Messi pass being disallowed for offside (83').

But the Parisians were in a comfortable position, and they kept their lead until the end of the match. After a very strong performance, Paris Saint-Germain resumes its progress in Ligue 1. Christophe Galtier's team are continue their fantastic unbeaten run at the Parc des Princes. It is a job well done before some more exciting fixtures on all fronts, starting with a trip to Rennes on Sunday...
