These two teams have faced each other competitively on just one previous occasion: a late 2-1 win for Atlético on 6th November last year (Matchday 4 of the UEFA Champions League) at the Parc des Princes.

2
Paris and Atlético have, however, played two friendlies against each other: a 1-1 draw on 2nd August 2009 at Arsenal Stadium in London and a 3-2 win for Les Parisiens in the International Champions Cup on 30th July 2018 in Singapore.

Nine players have plied their trade for both teams: Grégory Coupet, Kevin Gameiro, Ramón Heredia, Lucas Hernandez, Hugo Leal, Mateja Kežman, Peter Luccin, Cristian Rodríguez and Thiago Motta. Meanwhile, former Paris Saint-Germain striker Carlos Bianchi went on to manage the Madrid-based outfit in the 2005–2006 season.

10
In the aforementioned UCL fixture, Atlético became the 10th different Spanish team that Les Parisiens had faced competitively, following in the footsteps of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Deportivo de La Coruña, Sevilla, Athletic Club, Valencia, Racing de Santander, Real Sociedad and Girona. In fact, no country has provided more opponents for Les Rouge et Bleu than Spain, with Germany, England and Italy each boasting seven clubs that have played a competitive fixture against Paris.

The FIFA Club World Cup will be the 12th official competition that Paris will have taken part in since the club’s creation back in 1970, following on from Ligue 1, Division 2 (now Ligue 2), Division 3 (now the Championnat National), the Coupe de France, the Coupe de la Ligue, the Trophée des Champions, the UEFA Champions League (formerly the European Cup), the UEFA Europa League, the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, the UEFA Intertoto Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.

42
Paris Saint-Germain have played a total of 42 competitive fixtures against Spanish opposition: 15 against Barcelona, 12 against Real Madrid, four against Deportivo de La Coruña, two each against Sevilla, Athletic Club, Valencia and Real Sociedad and one each against Racing de Santander, Girona and Atlético Madrid. The capital club’s record in these fixtures stands at 18 wins, nine draws and 15 losses.
