The 2023-2024 season is underway!

Last Saturday, Paris Saint-Germain kicked off what promises to be an exciting new season. In the first match of the season, the Parc des Princes was once again packed to the rafters, with fans turning out in force to cheer on the Rouge et Bleu. The 2023-2024 season is underway!

After long weeks of waiting, Parisian fans were finally able to welcome their favourite team back to the legendary Parc des Princes. The wait was almost endless, but there was also a sense of curiosity about discovering the new Paris Saint-Germain faces. Top of the list was the first official outing for new Paris coach Luis Enrique.

Up against Lorient's tightly packed defence, the Parisians were unable to break down their opponents' resistance. At the end of the match, the Spanish tactician was nonetheless positive: "We put pressure on our opponents in their own half. From a defensive point of view, our match was a 10 out of 10." Above all, Luis Enrique did not fail to underline his delight at having coached his first game at the Parc as Rouge et Bleu coach: "I loved the atmosphere in the stadium. It was really impressive. I hope we can give the fans a lot of joy."

But the new Parisian coach was not the only one to make his first start for Paris Saint-Germain in this opening match. Lucas Hernandez, Milan Skriniar, Lee Kang-In, Gonçalo Ramos, Marco Asensio and Manuel Ugarte all made their first official appearances for the club from the capital. The latter spoke to PSG TV after the match against Les Merlus: "There are a lot of new players, but we have the experience to make a difference on the pitch. It's by playing that we'll build our chemistry. There are some positives to take away from tonight."

The fans at the Parc des Princes were able to get a glimpse of the new Parisian players, and look forward to seeing them in action again soon. On Saturday, they travel to Toulouse for matchday 2 of the league season, before returning to the Parc des Princes a week later to host RC Lens. Finally, to round off this month's return to competitive action, the Rouge et Bleu will discover their future European opponents on 31 August, when the draw for the UEFA Champions League group stage is made.
