Stats & Facts: The victory over Clermont in the spotlight

Match in numbers

On the day after Paris Saint-Germain's 4-0 victory over Les Clermontois on Matchday 5 of Ligue 1, check out the key stats and main events of the encounter.

5 in 5

The old saying about matches following the international break was swept away by Les Parisiens yesterday afternoon at the Parc des Princes. The team's run wasn't broken and Les Rouge et Bleu secured a fifth victory in as many matches, a perfect start to the 21-22 season. For the third time in its history, after 2017-18 and 2018-19 (crowned champions on both occasions), the club from the capital has succeeded in making it 5/5.

Unbeatable at home, Les Parisiens haven't lost in their last 29 outings at the Parc des Princes against sides that have just been promoted to Ligue 1 (27 wins, 2 draws), winning the last 16.

A FIery attack and another clean sheet

Gianluigi Donnarumma made his first outing between the sticks in Paris on Saturday, and the Italian keeper celebrated the occasion with a clean sheet (Les Rouge et Bleu's second consecutive clean sheet this season, after the one secured at Reims before the international break). Nuno Mendes and Nathan Bitumazala also made their competitive debuts for the club from the capital.

Paris Saint-Germain were also boosted by the return of captain Marquinhos, making his first appearance since the start of the season, the only South American available for the match, after returning a little earlier than his teammates this week. A special mention also for Thilo Kehrer who played his 100th match for the club when he came on off the bench.

In attack, Kylian Mbappé shone, was involved in several chances and found the back of the net. He has been directly involved in at least one goal in each of his last 10 Ligue 1 matches (11 goals, 3 assists), equaling his current record in the top flight, established between February and November 2020.

Paris have scored 16 goals after 5 matches in Ligue 1 this season, a feat that only Les Parisiens themselves have managed at this stage of the season in the last 45 seasons in the top flight (19 in 2017-18 and 17 in 2018-19).

Tributes

On Saturday afternoon, Paris Saint-Germain paid tribute to Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean-Pierre Adams.

A tribute video to the two men was broadcast before the match, while the whole of the Parc des Princes observed a minute's applause in their memory before kick-off.
