Stats & facts : Looking back on the victory in Lille

Match in numbers

In the wake of Paris Saint-Germain's 7-1 victory over Lille on Sunday 21 August at the Decathlon Arena, check out the key figures and highlights of the Ligue 1 Round 3 match.

PARIS IN TOP FORM

Paris Saint-Germain broke several records against LOSC, a club who had never before conceded as many goals at home in any competition ever, by scoring seven times in the Decathlon Arena. Les Rouge et Bleu have now scored at least five goals in each of their last four Ligue 1 matches - the only previous side to do so in Ligue 1 was Reims, back in August-September 1952 (also four matches). Paris became the first club in the history of the French championship to score at least three goals in six consecutive Ligue 1 games (28 goals in total). The Parisians also scored seven goals away from home in Ligue 1 for the second time in their history, following on from the 9-0 victory at Troyes (13/03/2016). Christophe Galtier's players have therefore scored 17 goals in the elite this season! Only Rennes (18 goals) boast a better historical after three games, achieved back in the 1950-1951 season! On the other hand, Paris had only led 4-0 at half-time on two occasions away from home in the league: at Brest (02/02/1980) and at Caen (16/09/2016).

A GREAT START TO THE GAME

Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappé scored the fastest goal in the top flight since former Caen player Michel Rio (8 seconds, against Cannes on 15/02/1992) in the ninth second (after 8 seconds and 36 hundredths exactly). The French international also scored the fastest goal in the history of the capital club, overtaking Paul Le Guen (13 seconds, against APOEL FC on 28/09/1993 in the Coupe de France). Note that four of the five fastest goals scored by Paris were... against Lille! In addition to the Rouge et Bleu number 7, Maxwell (26 seconds, on 25/04/2015 in Ligue 1), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (27 seconds, on 02/09/2012 in Ligue 1), and Bernard Béreau (30 seconds, on 12/06/1971 in the final of the National, ex-Ligue 2) also made the LOSC nets tremble in lightning-fast time.

KYLIAN MBAPPÉ ON ALL FRONTS

Parisian native Mbappé was unstoppable on Sunday, but he was not content with this record. By scoring three times at Villeneuve-d'Ascq, he became the top scorer in Ligue 1 in the 21st century (139 goals, including 16 with Monaco), overtaking former capital club striker Edinson Cavani (138 goals). The three goals enabled him to record a tenth personal hat-trick in all competitions for Les Rouge et Bleu, and thus equal another club record, held until now by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

NEYMAR JR ROLLS ON

Having scored two goals and provided three assists against Les Dogues, Paris Saint-Germain striker Neymar Jr has now been involved in 11 goals in Ligue 1 this season (five goals, six assists) - more than twice as many as any other player in Europe's top five leagues! One brace and two assists: only one player has done better in a top-flight match since Opta started analysing the competition (2006-2007): Neymar himself, with four goals and two assists (against Dijon on 17/01/2018). With 15 goals and 9 assists with the capital club in 2022, the Rouge et Bleu no10 has the second-moat goal involvements Ligue 1 this year. Only clubmate Kylian Mbappé is doing better, with 23 goals and nine assists.

MARCO VERRATTI STILL ON TOP

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti played his 250th Ligue 1 match on Sunday. The Italian international became the sixth player in capital club history to reach this total in the top flight. Only Jean-Marc Pilorget (371 matches), Safet Susic (286 matches), Sylvain Armand (285 matches), Mustapha Dahleb (268 matches) and Joel Bats (253 matches) have made more appearances for Les Rouge et Bleu.
