Match in numbers

Be the trivia boss in the lead up to tonight's game with all you need to know about the UEFA Champions League last-16 clash between Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain at the Signal Iduna Park!

A little history...

Tonight's game will be the third official meeting between the two sides after the two Europa League draws in 2010 (1-1 in Germany on 21/10/2010, 0-0 at the Parc des Princes on 04/11/2010). Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund have also met twice in friendly matches with two wins for Paris: in the inaugural Nike Cup in Dortmund (2-1 on 16/07/1990) and at the Parc des Princes in the Tournoi de Paris (3-1 on 26/07/1992).

Two players have played for both clubs: Christian Wörns and Abdou Diallo (Dan Axel Zagadou never played an official match for the Paris Saint-Germain first team).

Thomas Tuchel has coached both clubs.

German clubs are also Paris' favourite opposition in Europe's other four big leagues (England, Germany, Spain and Italy) with nine wins, two draws and four losses in 15 competitive matches.

The Stats

Paris Saint-Germain will be playing their 111th match in the UEFA Champions League and have recorded 60 wins, 22 draws and 28 losses. Tonight's game is Paris' 223rd European match (116 wins, 52 draws and 54 losses), which will equal Olympique de Marseille's European total (223 matches). NB: The figures do include the UEFA SuperCup but not the UEFA Intertoto Cup.

Marco Verratti has played 57 European matches for Paris Saint-Germain; a club record that he shares with Paul Le Guen. If the Italy midfielder features against Borussia Dortmund he will establish a new record. Paris Saint-Germain have also scored in each of their last 25 UEFA Champions League, and were last kept scoreless in the 1-0 loss away to Manchester City on 12 April 2016.

And facts

Paris Saint-Germain are undefeated in their last 23 matches in all competitions since the Ligue 1 loss to Dijon (1-2) on 01/11/2019. It is the fifth-best run in club history behind the 37 matches without loss in the 1993-1994 season, the 26 matches in 1985-1986, the 24 matches in 2015-2016 and level with the 23 matches in 2014-2015. The club from the capital have also scored in their last 48 away matches in all competitions, since the scoreless draw away to Caen in Ligue 1 on 19 May 2018.

Paris Saint-Germain are playing their eighth consecutive last-16 tie since 2012-2013. Only three other European sides have matches this achievement: FC Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Paris Saint-Germain have always qualified from knockout ties against German opposition: vs Wolsfburg in 2008-09 (2-0 and 3-1, UEFA Cup) and Bayer Leverkusen in 2013-14 (2-1 and 4-0, Champions League). A hat-trick against Borussia Dortmund?
