Stats & Facts: A look back on the draw at Lens

Match in numbers

The day after the 1-1 draw between Paris Saint-Germain and Lens on Saturday 4 December at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis, check out the key stats and the events that marked Matchday 17 of Ligue 1.

Paris react

After trailing at the Bollaert, Paris Saint-Germain managed to secure a draw at Lens in injury time. It wasn’t a first this season for the club from the capital, who have picked up 5 points after the 90th minute this season in Ligue 1. Only Saint-Étienne can equal that record in the top flight. Les Rouge et Bleu have gone on to take 16 points after trailing in a match in Ligue 1 this season, more than any other team in the top five European leagues.

A firsT for Wijnaldum

After coming on at the end of the match, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, who had already picked up a brace in the UEFA Champions League with the club from the capital at Leipzig (2-2 on 03/11/2021), scored his first Ligue 1 goal against Les Sang et Or. The Dutch international hadn’t scored in the league since 31 January with Liverpool against West Ham. 2 of his 3 goals for the club from the capital have been set-up by Kylian Mbappé.

Mbappé tops the assists

Neck and neck with…  Lensois Jonathan Clauss at the top of the Ligue 1 assist table, with 7 assists to their name, Kylian Mbappé, who came on for the closing stages of the game, delivered an inch-perfect cross for Georginio Wijnaldum to head home and give him a lead over his opponent. The world champion has been directly involved in 15 goals this season in Ligue 1 (7 goals, 8 assists), only Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski (17), Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema (19) and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (22) have better records in the top five European leagues.

Autumn chamPions

In taking home a point from Lens, Paris Saint-Germain, who can no longer be caught at the top of the table before the winter break, secured the honorary title of Autumn Champions for the 13th time in the club’s history after 1985-1986, 1988-1989, 1993-1994, 1995-1996, 1996-1997, 2011-2012, 2012-2013, 2013-2014, 2015-2016, 2017-2018, 2018-2019 et 2019-2020. It bodes well for what is to come, given that after leading at the halfway stage, the club from the capital has been crowned champions on 8 occasions, in 1985-1986, 1993-1994, 2012-2013, 2013-2014, 2015-2016, 2017-2018, 2018-2019 et 2019-2020.
