Stats & Facts: A look back on Paris-Strasbourg

Match in numbers

The day after Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-2 victory in their first match at the Parc des Princes of the season, check out the key stats & events from Matchday 2 of Ligue 1.

A successful first home outing

One week after their 2-1 victory over Troyes at the Stade de l’Aube, Mauricio Pochettino’s side took to the pitch at the Parc for the first time this campaign. We can say that it was a successful evening for the Rouge et Bleu as they capped off a 4-2 victory against Racing, an opponent that Les Parisiens enjoy playing against, given that this was the third time they had faced them in their first home match of the season, following two successes in 1980-1981 (1-0) and in 2000-2001 (3-1). Two wins in two matches in Ligue 1, a first for the Club since the 2018-2019 season. Yesterday evening, Mauro Icardi, became the player to have scored the quickest goal at the Parc des Princes in a season when he found the back of the net in the 3rd minute of the game, equaling the record held by his fellow compatriot Carlos Bianchi (against Reims, on 09/08/1977). His teammate Kylian Mbappé played in his 150th Ligue 1 match (109 with Paris, 41 with Monaco), picking up two assists and scoring his 108th goal in the process. Only former Parisien Zlatan Ibrahimovic boasts a better record after his first 150 appearances (113 goals in 122 matches).

This is paris

35 competitive encounters, 26 defeats, 8 draws and therefore… no victories. This is Strasbourg’s record against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes. Les Alsaciens overtook the record for the most matches without a win in Paris in 2018. The record previously being held by Bastia (31 matches without a win at the Parc, a run that continues to this day). The return of former Parisien Kévin Gameiro, saw him score his first Ligue 1 goal since 26 May 2013, that’s a gap of eight years, two months and nineteen days. Racing haven't had much luck against Les Rouge et Bleu in recent times, given that they have lost seven and drawn two of their last nine encounters. Les Parisiens have won their last four matches against Les Alsaciens in the league, after winning only one of the previous four (2 draws, 1 defeat).

ENtertainment on the pitch... and off of it

Above and beyond Les Rouge et Bleu's victory, the Paris supporters were also able to enjoy an evening filled with emotions. Numerous guests were present during the pre-match Live and speaking to the stadium announcer (former Parisien Ludovic Giuly, Formula 1 driver Romain Gasly, and New York Knicks and recently crowned silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympic Games, Evan Fournier), an XXL banner was unravelled by the Collectif Ultras Paris as the players took to the pitch, without forgetting the grand return of Javier Pastore. Those lucky enough to be at the Parc des Princes on Saturday will forever remember this memorable evening. The highlight of the show, the presentation at 20:00 of the five summer recruits: Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi and Georginio Wijnaldum. The last two of the five both made their home debut at the Parc des Princes, alongside two youngsters from the Club's Academy, Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe and Arnaud Kalimuendo.
