Stats & Facts: A look back at the win over Strasbourg

Match in numbers

Check out the key numbers and stats behind Les Parisiens’ final win of 2022, a 2-1 victory over Strasbourg on Matchday 16 of Ligue 1.

FINISHING ON A HIGH

Les Parisiens wanted to finish on a high at home for their final outing of 2022, and it was mission accomplished for Christophe Galtier's men, who snatched a 2-1 win over Strasbourg in what was somewhat of an emotional rollercoaster.

Paris are seemingly irresistible on home soil, as they haven't lost a single one of their last 30 home games in Ligue 1 – by far the greatest ongoing run in Europe's top five leagues, with it being more than twice as long as the next-best streak: Bayern Munich's 14 consecutive home games without defeat. In fact, Paris are one of just two teams who are still unbeaten domestically across Europe's top five leagues, alongside Napoli.

Kylian LEAVES IT LATE

Last August, in the closing game of Matchday 3 of Ligue 1, Kylian Mbappé scored the league's fastest goal since 1992 when he opened the scoring after just nine seconds away to Lille. To round the year off in style, the Bondy native bagged himself another record!

His match-winning penalty was scored after 95 minutes and 41 seconds, making it the latest league goal in Paris Saint-Germain history and the second-latest across all competitions, clocking in just before Antoine Kombouaré's goal against Real Madrid (95:55).

Incidentally, with his 44 goals for Paris Saint-Germain in 2022, the no. 7 finishes off the calendar year as Europe's top scorer, with six goals more than his nearest competitor, Robert Lewandowski.

Strasbourg's BOGEY TEAM

Did you know that Les Alsaciens have never won a competitive fixture at the Parc des Princes? RCSA are still looking for a first win in the southwest of the capital after 36 games, with 28 wins and eight draws for Paris – a record unbeaten streak for Les Rouge et Bleu, as Julien Stéphan's men were unable to buck the trend on Wednesday evening.

A SPECIAL MENTION FOR THE KIDS

How could we talk about this game without highlighting Paris's academy graduates? Congratulations, first of all, must go to young El Chadaille Bitshiabu, who was handed his first-ever Ligue 1 start by Christophe Galtier at kick-off. The 17-year-old defender was also given a wonderful ovation from the Parc des Princes crowd as he made his way off the pitch. "We needed to change our way of playing the ball out from the back slightly in order to exploit El Chadaille's strengths, but for a first start in a match like the one tonight, he did very well," the coach commented in his post-match press conference.

Encouragement should also be given to Ilyes Housni, who had already proven to be a key player in the recent friendlies, particularly through his brace against Quevilly-Rouen. On Wednesday night, the Youth League's top scorer was brought into the first-team squad for a competitive fixture for the first time ever and therefore enjoyed the honour of seeing the Parc des Princes from the bench – a first step for the 17-year-old striker as he waits to make his first appearance in a competitive game!

THE UNBEATEN RUN CONTINUES

By earning themselves another win, Paris Saint-Germain are now on a run of 32 games without defeat across all competitions, with 25 wins and seven draws – the third-longest unbeaten streak in their history. To make it a record-breaker, they would have to beat the 37-game run from between August 1993 and April 1994 as well as the 36-match streak from between March and December 2013.
