Stats & Facts: A look back at the win over Marseille

Match in numbers

Check out the figures and key stats from Les Parisiens’ win over Olympique de Marseille on Matchday 11 of Ligue 1.

NEYMAR JR, VERRATTI AND MARQUI RISE TO THE TOP

Having scored the only goal of the game in the second minute of first-half stoppage time, Neymar Jr netted for the ninth time this season, putting him joint-top of the league's goalscoring charts alongside Lille's Jonathan David. Paris's no. 10 has scored two goals in his last two top-flight games against Marseille.

Meanwhile, Marco Verratti featured in his 20th Classique since joining Paris – an unprecedented feat for an outfield player from either team! His track record is an extraordinary one, too: 20 games, 14 wins, four draws and just one defeat.

At the back, Marquinhos remains unbeaten against Les Olympiens! The Paris captain has not once tasted defeat against Marseille in 16 Ligue 1 matches (13 wins and three draws). With his 21 wins against Laval, only Jean-Paul Bertrand-Demanes has played more games against a single team without losing in the last 75 top-flight seasons. That's one way to make us all feel old.

CLASSIQUE PARIS

We're starting to get used to the sweet melody of this particular song. Les Parisiens' run continues, as they have now won 21 of their last 27 matches against Marseille in all competitions since 2011, with four draws and two defeats. The only team that they have beaten more often in the same timeframe is Saint-Étienne, with 22 wins notched up against Les Verts, including ten out of 12 at home, making them Les Rouge et Bleu's favourite opponent on home soil in the last 11 years.

With this win, Paris Saint-Germain widen the gap at the top of the table, as they sit three points ahead of second-placed Lorient and six points ahead of OM, who pick up a second straight loss in Ligue 1.

A MATCH THAT LIVED UP TO ITS BILLING

Tension, a wild atmosphere in the stands, a win for Paris, a red card, Neymar's dance, a majestic Messi free kick onto the bar... This game had all the makings of a great night, both on and off the pitch.

On the pitch, it was an intense match: 41 shots in total, with 23 for Paris and 18 for Marseille, the most in a Ligue 1 fixture since Lyon v. Metz in January 2021, which also saw 41 shots taken. It's also a record for a Classique in the top flight, going all the way back to 2006!
