Stats & facts: A look back at the win over Marseille

Match in numbers

In the wake of Paris Saint-Germain's 4-0 victory over Olympique de Marseille at the Parc des Princes on Sunday 24 September, take a look at the key facts and figures from Ligue 1 Round 6.

AN HISTORIC VICTORY

With a 4-0 win over rivals Marseille, Paris equalled their biggst-ever home win over OM in all competitions. It is the third time that the Parisians have won by a four-goal margin against Marseille, following the 5-1 defeat inflicted on 8 January 1978 in the league and more recently the 4-0 victory in Ligue 1 on 27 October 2019. In fact, the two heaviest defeats suffered by Marseille in the league since 2019 have come in the Classique against Les Rouge et Bleu.

And what better accompaniment to a thundering attack than an ironclad defence? On Sunday, Paris Saint-Germain kept a clean sheet for the eighth time in their last 11 Ligue 1 matches against Marseille. In that time, the Parisians have conceded just three goals against their southern rivals. It is also worth pointing out that Paris have not conceded a single goal in their last three league games against OM.

Finally, Les Rouge et Bleu once again took the game to their opponents. With 77% of possession over the course of the game, the Parisians inflicted on Marseille their lowest percentage of possession in a Ligue 1 match since Opta began analysing the competition (23%).

ACHRAF HAKIMI CONTINUES THE TRADITION

Achraf Hakimi scored a superb free-kick, which took the Parisians' tally for direct free-kick goals against OM in the league to five in the time that Opta have been analysing the competition. The Moroccan international follows in the footsteps of Jérôme Rothen (26 October 2008), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (7 October 2012), Edinson Cavani (22 October 2017) and Angel Di Maria (17 March 2019).

Having already scored a few days earlier against Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League, the Parisian full-back scored his third goal of the season in all competitions - and his 12th in total for Les Rouge et Bleu.

SUCCESSFUL DEBUT FOR PARISIAN ATTACK

When the match kicked off, three Parisian forward were playing in their first Classique. The first to make his mark was Randal Kolo Muani, scorer of the capital club's second goal. The French international then set up the fourth goal of the match.

On the right wing, Ousmane Dembélé also got his first Classique off to a flying start. The French international's cross found the head of Gonçalo Ramos, giving him a first assist for his new club.

Meanwhile, Gonçalo Ramos scored twice. The Portuguese centre-forward, who came on to replace Kylian Mbappé, is the first Paris player to bag a brace off the bench since that same Mbappé came on and scored two in a Ligue 1 match against Dijon on 24 October 2020.
