Stats & Facts: A look back at the win over Lyon

Match in numbers

Following Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-1 win over Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1 last night, check out the key numbers and standout events from the Matchday 4 encounter.

PARIS KEEP UP THEIR HOT STREAKS

Continuing in the same vein as in their last three Ligue 1 fixtures, Paris Saint-Germain remained in firm control of the football last night. Having boasted 69.1% of the possession against OL, Les Rouge et Bleu's dominance of games continues, as they have enjoyed an average of 72.45% of the possession across their first four league games of the campaign – that's 11.55% more than at the same stage last season (60.9%).

Paris extended another fine run following yesterday's comfortable win, and this time, it's against Lyon specifically, as the capital club registered their biggest-ever win away to OL in Ligue 1 last night and are now unbeaten in their last five games away to Les Gones, constituting Les Parisiens' longest unbeaten streak at the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes side's ground since their seven-game run without defeat there between 1982 and 1993. What's more, Lyon hadn't been four goals down at half time in a top-flight match since August 1966.

Lyon BECOME MBAPPÉ'S JOINT-FAVOURITE TARGET

Kylian Mbappé's love affair with scoring against Olympique Lyonnais shows no signs of stopping! After racking up his 100th Ligue 1 goal against Les Gones in March 2021, Paris's no. 7 struck again yesterday, bagging himself a brace and thereby taking his goal tally against Lyon up to 12 in all competitions. In doing so, the France international has made OL his joint-favourite team to score against, together with Dijon FCO.

Hakimi AND ugarte CONTINUE TO DELIVER

Paris Saint-Germain no. 2 Achraf Hakimi is continuing to punish opposition defences, and against OL, that came in the form of the goal that made it 2-0 in the 20th minute. This was the Morocco international's tenth goal in Ligue 1, putting him at least three goals ahead of any other defender in the French top flight since his arrival in the capital in 2021. In addition, Hakimi has scored two of his last three goals with his left foot – not bad for a right-footer!

Manuel Ugarte also put in an exceptional performance and continued his excellent start to life with Les Rouge et Bleu. With 41 ball recoveries in four Ligue 1 games, the Uruguayan has won the ball more times than any other player so far this season in the French top flight. Since Opta began analysing Ligue 1 back in the 2006–2007 season, only a certain Thiago Motta has done better in this respect, with 47 ball recoveries after four top-flight games.

Barcola MAKES HISTORY

By coming on in the 76th minute to replace Ousmane Dembélé, Bradley Barcola became the 500th player to feature for Paris Saint-Germain's men's team in its history – against his former club, no less – in what was a more-than-promising debut for the youngster, who most notably had a chance to score Paris's fifth goal of the night in the 85th minute. His substitute appearance was followed by that of Cher Ndour, who naturally became the 501st male player to step onto the pitch for the capital club. The two summer signings follow in the footsteps of some big names who have represented such a milestone for the club, including a certain David Beckham, who was the 400th man to play for Les Rouge et Bleu.
