Stats & Facts: A look back at the victory in Nantes

Match in numbers

In the wake of Paris Saint-Germain's 3-0 victory over Nantes on Saturday 3 September at the Stade de la Beaujoire, here are the key statistics and events of the match on the 6th match day of Ligue 1.

Mbappé and Messi reach the top

With two goals and two assists respectively against Nantes, Mbappé and Messi join Neymar Jr at the top of the Ligue 1 scoring and assisting charts. The Parisian No7 now has seven league goals this season and Leo Messi now has 6 assists. The Argentinian has 20 assists in 32 matches in Ligue 1, with only Angel Di Maria having passed this milestone more quickly in the top flight (31 matches). And as proof of their excellent understanding, 11 of these 20 assists made by Leo Messi were for Kylian Mbappé. A Franco-Argentine connection that continues to flourish.

Parisians stay unbeaten with win against Canaries

With another win at La Beaujoire, Paris continues its 14-game unbeaten streak in Ligue 1 (10 wins and 4 draws), with 48 goals scored and only 12 goals conceded. For the third time in its history, the capital club has won its first 4 away games of a league season after 2018/2019 and 2021/2022.

The players from the capital are never quiet against Les Canaris, with at least one goal scored in the last 28 official encounters between the two teams, since the 0-0 draw at the Stade de la Beaujoire in Ligue 1 on 25 February 2006, a record for Paris Saint-Germain. The streak was continued last night with 3 new goals scored against Nantes, and it could have been worse for the hosts. Marquinhos ' team-mates touched the ball 62 times in the opposition box, a record in a Ligue 1 match since the Parisians did even better themselves against Reims in May 2021 (69).

Christophe Galtier's winning coaching

The Parisians played their final game before the clash at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday against Juventus. And to get the best out of his players with this very busy schedule, Coach Galtier opted for rotation, which worked out well. Against Montpellier, Renato Sanches came on for his first appearance for the Red and Blue and found the net a minute later from a Nuno Mendes pass. This time it was the left-back's turn. Nuno Mendes came on at the beginning of the second half and scored his first goal in an official match for Paris Saint-Germain in his 44th game to put the game to dead.

A powerful Parisian attack

The capital club has made an excellent start to the season and its attacking trio has had a lot to do with it, helping to equal a record early in the campaign. Paris Saint-Germain have scored 24 goals after their first 6 games in Ligue 1, equalling the record for goals scored by a team in the 5 major leagues at this stage of a season in the 21st century (24 for Manchester City in 2019/20 and for Bayern Munich in 2020/21).

In Ligue 1, the attacking trio are dominating their opponents with first Kylian Mbappé, involved in 35 goals in 2022 (26 goals, 9 assists), then Neymar Jr with 26 goals (17 goals and 9 assists), and Lionel Messi contributing to 24 goals (8 goals and 16 assists). They are the 3 players involved in the most goals this year in Ligue 1.

Rocket mbappé

A counter-attacking specialist, Kylian Mbappé has, since his Ligue 1 debut on 2 December 2015, scored 30 goals on the counter-attack. This is double any other player in the big 5 leagues over the same period (15 for Salah and Vardy). In Ligue 1, the second highest total of goals scored on the counter is 7 (Moffi, Thauvin and Depay). Another record for the man who does not stop collecting them.
