Stats & Facts: A look back at the home game against Lorient

Match in numbers

Take a look at the key facts and number from the Parisians' 0-0 draw with FC Lorient on Saturday 12 August 2023 on Matchday 1 of Ligue 1 at the Parc des Princes.

PARIS dominated...

In the first official match of the season, Paris became the first team to total more than 1,000 passes in a Ligue 1 match since Opta began analysing the competition in 2006/07 (1,001 passes against Les Merlus).

What's more, the Parisians had a very high amount of possession during the match, with 77.8% of the ball. This kind of control over a match has not been seen in the French league since 10 September 2020, when Paris Saint-Germain played RC Lens (78.2% possession for the Rouge et Bleu).

... and won the ball back quickly

The Parisians were omnipresent when it came to winning the ball back on Saturday evening. And the numbers don't contradict that, as the Parisians recovered the ball 24 times in their opponents' final third during the match. A particularly high number, making it the highest total for a team in Europe's top 5 over the course of a single match in the last 10 years. And that's just the beginning.

a new look team

During the match against Lorient, Paris fans were introduced to no fewer than six new players who made their official debut in a Paris Saint-Germain shirt. Lucas Hernandez, Milan Skriniar, Manuel Ugarte, Marco Asensio, Lee Kang-In and Gonçalo Ramos all made their first appearances for the Rouge et Bleu. It is also the first time in the last 25 years that the club from the capital have fielded the same starting XI in all competitions.
