Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar Jr becamethe third player to score a Champions League hat-trick for Les Rouge et Bleu after Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who netted four against Anderlecht (5-0, 23/10/2013), and Layvin Kurzawa also versus RSCA (5-0, 31/10/2017). It was the Brazil international's second UEFA Champions League hat-trick after Barcelona vs Celtic (6-1, 11/12/2013). Netting his 28th, 29th and 30th goals in the competition, the Paris No.10 equalled Kaka's all-time Brazilian record in the UCL. He also became the first player to score two free-kicks in a UCL match since Cristiano Ronaldo with Real Madrid vs Zürich (5-2, 15/09/2009).

The prolific six-goal haul was not a club record. Les Rouge et Bleu have twice gone better in the UEFA Champions League: vs Rosenborg (7-2, 24/10/2000) and vs Celtic (7-1, 22/11/2017). Les Parisiens also scored for the 18th consecutive match in the competition - the best current run in the UEFA Champions League.
