Spectacular Paris!

Three days after a fifth consecutive away match, and victory, 2-0 in Pau in the last-16 of the Coupe de France, Paris finally returned to the Parc des Princes to host Montpellier on Matchday 22 of Ligue 1. A 5-0 win for the French champions was the latest in a long line of victories over Montpellier.

Thomas Tuchel's men were back in front of their home fans with a reshuffled starting eleven, but in the now customary 4-4-2 formation. Determined to control the match and Montpellier's potential counterattacks, the Parisians showed great focus from the outset.

The first shot across the bow came from the home side with Neymar Jr. picking out Kylian Mbappé who perfectly set up Pablo Sarabia for an opening gal that was later ruled out for offside (4'). But the Spaniard was on the scoresheet just a few minutes later latching onto a loose ball on the edge of the box for stunning first-time shot with his right-foot (1-0, 9').

Andy Delort looked for an immediate reply, claimed by Keylor Navas (14'). At the other end of the pitch, MHSC goalkeeper Dimitry Bertaud was also in the action, picking up a red card for handball outside the box under pressure from Kylian Mbappé (17').

The pressure intensified on Montpellier's goal as Kylian Mbappé's shot from a tight angle was blocked by Carvalho (26'), Sarabia fired over (30') and Neymar Jr was causing havoc in the opposition defence.

Pablo Sarabia was a goalscorer, and then an assists provider with a subtle one-two with Angel Di Maria. The Argentina international's chip finding the back of the net (2-0, 41'). Daniel Congre and Téji Savanier then conspired to turn Angel Di Maria's corner into their own goal (3-0, 44')

There was more of the same after the break when Neymar Jr. played in Kylian Mbappé, whose shot hit the outside post (49'). The pair then tried again, this time Mbappé rounding the 'keeper and firing into the empty net (4-0, 57').

After another flowing attack, the ball broke to Layvin Kurzawa who slammed hoe the rebound (5-0, 65'). Neymar Jr. went close to scoring goal no.6 (68', 85') before young MHSC substitute Joris Chotard was shown two yellow cards to leave his team with nine men (87'). And there was still time for Edinson Cavani to see his gal ruled out for a tight offside call (90').
