Sergio Ramos: Eternal warrior
After two seasons in red and blue, Sergio Ramos is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain. Here is a look back at the eternal warrior's two years in Paris!
Charisma, aura, warrior. It's hard to sum up Sergio Ramos in just a few words, but if you had to pick out three, here they are. The Spanish world champion arrived in Paris in July 2021 with an impressive CV, but that's not all. His character and presence quickly commanded respect. Sergio arrived in the French capital to the delight of Paris Saint-Germain fans.
A frequent adversary of the capital club in previous years, he also became the team-mate of the man he played against for so many years in Spain: Lionel Messi. It was a reunion that aroused the curiosity of football observers the world over.
And so his Parisian story began. Although he won Ligue 1 in his first season with Paris, his 2021-2022 season was marred by injuries that kept him away from the pitch for long periods. Despite this, a handful of appearances at the end of the calendar year saw his talent shine through, as did his confidence in a new defence. He continued to work, and returned at the end of the season. In the end, he played in 12 league matches and three Coupe de France matches, scoring three goals in all competitions.
But the soldier had not said his last word. He followed that up with an accomplished 22-23 season, crowned with another French league title, and with even crazier stats. With 32 Ligue 1 matches played, including 30 starts, three Coupe de France matches, eight UEFA Champions League matches and a goal in the Trophée des Champions win over Nantes in Tel Aviv. The season culminated in 34 consecutive games without defeat in a Paris shirt, the longest unbeaten streak in the club's history.
A full season, rewarded with another crown, which will leave its mark forever with the historic 11th French league title won by Paris Saint-Germain, with a Parc des Princes that paid him a heartfelt tribute on his last match with Paris, to which he responded by opening the scoring with a trademark header.
For two seasons, Sergio Ramos has shown that he is a champion, lifting the locker room upwards with his experience, his stature and everything he has brought to football over 20 years - and for all eternity.
