Rocheteau: 'Great memories'

As Paris Saint-Germain celebrates it's 50th birthday, PSG.FR takes you back into the club's history with a series of interviews with former Rouge et Bleu legends: today, Dominique Rocheteau...

Dominique, Paris Saint-Germain is celebrating its 50th birthday this year... what does the club represent to you?
"It is one of the two clubs where I really experienced some incredible moments. I really had some great times, like winning the league title in 1986. I am still a fan of Paris Saint-Germain. I'm a fan of Saint-Étienne first and foremost, but also of PSG! 50 years is young but it still represents something. Obviously I hope the club goes as high as possible."

You were the first player to score 100 goals for the club. Was that an important milestone for you?
"There weren't that many statistics back in those days. When I retired, I didn't even know I'd scored 100 goals for the club! Obviously I'm very proud, especially when you look at the players that I played with in those days, such as Carlos Bianchi, Mustapha Dahleb… and those that overtook me: Pauleta, Ibrahimovic and Cavani. They are all great players so I'm very proud to be in that list."

You also scored the 1,000th goal in the history of Paris Saint-Germain…
"For me, that's just a nice little story. What's important in a club is your longevity. That's what counts the most. I stayed seven seasons at Paris Saint-Germain. That means something. One match, or one goal, don't represent much at all."

What was the highlight of your time in Paris Saint-Germain?
"There was the title in 1986, because amongst other things, we set a new undefeated record. We really enjoyed that season. There was also the Coupe de France in 1982. Obviously the Saint-Etienne fans weren't happy with me because I scored the equaliser that sent the game into extra time. They are great memories."

Finally, do you have a message for the Paris Saint-Germain fans?
"Stay loyal and supporting your team. For me, as a supporter, loyalty comes first. When things are going well, that's easy, but you have to stay loyal during the tough times too."
