Ready for the Classique?

We set the scene ahead of Sunday's Classique between Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille (kick-off 21:00CET).

THE MATCH

It's the 95th Classique between the two sides with Paris on top with 40 wins to 32 defeats in competitive fixtures. The capital club is unbeaten in their last 17 matches with OM, a run stretching back to 2011. It's the club's third-best run behind Nantes (20 games) and Angers (19 matches), both of which are still on-going.

An 11th straight win from the start of the season would see Paris Saint-Germain equal the record for Europe's top five leagues (Germany, England, Spain, Italy and France) held by the Tottenham Hotspur side of 1960-1961. With 10 wins, Paris has already equalled the starts set by Manchester United (1985/86), AS Roma (2013/14) and Bayern Munich (2015/16).

THE PLAYERS

Forty-eight players - a Paris Saint-Germain record - have played for both teams, from Jean Djorkaeff, the Paris club's first captain in 1970, to Lassana Diarra.
Marco Verratti could make his 250th competitive appearance for the Rouge-et-Bleu, becoming only the 22nd player to reach the milestone and following hot on the heels of teammates Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva, who achieved the feat some weeks ago.

THE LITTLE +

With 37 goals after ten games, Paris Saint-Germain have equalled the Ligue 1 record set by Saint-Etienne in 1969/70. In their 11th game, les Verts scored three in winning at Sochaux, so PSG know what they have to do to keep pace...
