Pierre Phelipon: "A beautiful history"

To mark the 50th anniversary of the capital club, PSG.FR offers you the chance to dive into Paris Saint-Germain history through interviews with those who have written Rouge et Bleu history. Today, we hear from Pierre Phelipon, the first coach in club history from 1970 to 1972.

Pierre, Paris Saint-Germain will soon celebrate their 50th anniversary. What does that mean to you as the man who was the club's first coach?
"It's a beautiful history. There aren't many clubs who have managed 50 years at this level. I think that Paris Saint-Germain are going through a very good phase in the club's history and I hope there will soon be a beautiful surprise on a European level."

You've had the chance to meet one of your successors, Thomas Tuchel…
"Yes, and it went very well. We had the opportunity to talk to each other about this special job. It's not easy to be the coach of a great team like Paris Saint-Germain. I also met Neymar who came to say hello to me when he came out of the dressing room. That made me happy, he's a really lovely lad."

You also gave a trophy to Tanguy Kouassi, who scored the 4000th goal in the club's history…
"That was a great moment too. He scored the 4000th goal and I set up the very first goal for Bernard Guignedoux (against Poitiers, 1-1 on 23/08/1970) when we started out with Paris Saint-Germain."
