Paris takes care of business in Bordeaux!
Paris Saint-Germain won again against Girondins de Bordeaux on match day 13 of Ligue 1, continuing their run at the top of the league (2-3).
A week after the victory over Lille in the Parc des Princes, the capital club travelled to the Gironde for their next match in Ligue 1 , with a new look XI taking to the pitch at the Matmut Atlantique to meet the challenge.
With many of his team's key players missing, and needing to bounce back from the disappointment of their draw with Leipzig against a Bordeaux team desperate for points, Mauricio Pochettino knew that his side would not have an easy time of it in their final game before the international break. That feeling was soon confirmed on the pitch, where the Girondins did not lack any bravery in testing Keylor Navas.
But our Parisians held their nerve enough to strike first! It was down to two men to light up the Bordeaux night: : Kylian Mbappé and Neymar Jr.
First of all, they opened the scoring with a brilliant passage of play finished off by a snapshot by the Brazilian at the near post after a perfect cross from the Frenchman (0-1, 26). Then to double the advantage, at the perfect moment just before half-time, there was another delicious shot from Neymar Jr following a magical back-heel from his teammate (0-2, 43).
With Keylor Navas still at the top of his game at the other end, the Parisians came back more motivated than ever in the second half to try and finish the game off. Once again it was the French-Brazilian duo combining magnificently to give Benoît Costil a few more scares.
Technical interchanges, combinations, sprints : the artists gracing our attack were not lacking in inspiration. So who else but the man who had already notched two assists to get himself on the scoresheet? This time Kylian Mbappé took advantage of a Gini Wijnaldum pass to increase the lead on the scoreboard (0-3, 63). Special mention to Ander Herrera, who penetrated the defence with his pass in the build-up .
Down but not out, les Bordelais gave everything they had to get back into the game. Elis found the back of the net with a pass from Adli, just as the attacks were getting more menacing (1-3, 78). And although M'Baye Niang reduced the gap in stoppage time (2-3, 92), les Rouge et Bleu held on for the important victory.
The Parisians negotiated their second game of the week well to maintain their lead at the top of the league. Now it's time for the international break!
