Paris stay top!

Paris Saint-Germain emerged victorious against Stade Rennais this Saturday night at the Parc des Princes, in Matchday 10 of Ligue 1 (3-0).

The Parisians were back in domestic action with a top of the table clash against Stade Rennais, another French side playing in this season’s Champions League. With a number of players missing through injury in all positions Thomas Tuchel picked another much-changed starting eleven, with Alessandro Florenzi playing up front alongside Moise Kean and Angel Di Maria.

Up against a Rennes side who came out working hard and pressing high up the pitch, the Parisians needed to be fully focused in the early stages of the game. But thanks to a lot of hard work without the ball, distributing it quickly once they had it and making themselves available at all times the Parisians were able to gain the upper hand. It was Moise Kean who found the spark needed to break the deadlock. After the Italian had won the ball back he didn’t think twice before drilling a well placed shot into the back of the net (1-0,11’).

The Parisians started to turn on the style. First Angel Di Maria hit the post with a superb half-volley (14’), before doubling his team’s lead with a signature chip to lob keeper Gomis (2-0,21’).

Against a Rennes side that never stopped going forward and peppering Keylor Navas’s goal, the Parisians showed enough discipline to ensure that their deserved two-goal lead stayed intact at the break. In the second half Thomas Tuchel had to use his bench wisely as one after the other Idrissa Gueye, Thilo Kehrer, Alessandro Florenzi and Moise Kean all had to leave the pitch with injuries. Yet despite these setbacks it was the unplayable Angel Di Maria who put the game to bed with a stunning strike into the corner (3-0, 73’).

With this victory against a top four opponent – their eighth consecutive win in Ligue 1 –, Paris Saint-Germain have extended their impressive run and consolidated their place at the top of the table. The international break is now the focus for Thomas Tuchel’s men, who will face Monaco in their first league game back on November 20.
