Paris snatch victory and retake first place!

Buoyed by the Parc des Princes, Paris Saint-Germain won with a lot of determination against RB Leipzig this Tuesday evening, in the third match of the Champions League group stage (3-2). Here's a look back at the victory!

The crowd in the stadium was full of excitement for a spectacular fixture: the atmosphere in the capital was fantastic for the reception of RB Leipzig. With the top spot up for grabs, the Parisians had made no secret of their ambition. Mauricio Pochettino had opted for an almost identical line-up to the one that won the game against Manchester City, with Julian Draxler and Keylor Navas returning.

In these big encounters, you need tension and twists and turns. And this evening offered us plenty of that! Firstly, because the match started at a frenetic pace for both sides. On the one hand, Keylor Navas repelled the first German attempts, while on the other, the Parisians wasted no time in getting their 12th man up for it! In the first half, Kylian Mbappé, who had been set up by Julian Draxler, went past his defender before firing an unstoppable shot past the keeper to send the Parisian crowd into raptures (1-0, 9').

The German side had their backs against the wall and were now trying to break the Parisians' grip on the game. The German side managed to equalise before the half-hour mark through their striker Andre Silva, who concluded a team move (1-1, 28’). One side was on the back foot, the other on the front foot: it was inevitable that the two sides would have another very open game. And with Kylian Mbappé who was exhilarating everytime he touched the ball and Christopher Nkunku who was unstoppable with every recovery, it was a fierce battle of wills. And the situation was totally undecided when it came to half time.

With 45 minutes remaining, it was all to play for for Mauricio Pochettino’s and Jesse Marsch's men. The visitors were the first to react, taking the lead through Mukiele (1-2, 57'). It was time for a response. However, it was not long before the Rouge et Bleu were back in the game, led by the increasingly influential Leo Messi. And that's just as well, because it was the Argentinian playmaker who put the two teams back on level terms after a Kylian Mbappé pass. (2-2, 67').

And the magical duo did it again a few minutes later, when Kylian Mbappé's lightning acceleration earned him a penalty that Leo Messi converted with a delightful chip to give Paris the lead (3-2, 75'). They shone but they also held on and suffered: our Rouge et Bleu had everything they needed to hold on to their lead until the end, and Kylian Mbappé even missed the chance to add to the score with a penalty (90+2').

Paris Saint-Germain won their second match in three in this UEFA Champions League campaign after a stunning game. The win has enabled them to regain their position as group A leaders. This is a major achievement before the Classique in Marseille, which will bring this week's action to a close...
