Paris shine and stay top!

Paris Saint-Germain won easily against Clermont after another spectacular performance, in matchday 5 of Ligue 1 (4-0). Here's a look back at the victory!

After a perfect start to the championship, the Parisians were back at the Parc des Princes this Saturday afternoon, after returning from the international break. With a number of players missing - injured or returning late - Mauricio named a new starting eleven: Kylian Mbappé with Rafinha, Kimpembe and Marquinhos started together for the first time this season, and Gianluigi Donnarumma made his first appearance in the rouge et bleu shirt.

From the very first minutes of the match, the tone was set: the Parisians were going to set a furious pace for the Auvergnats. And it was a new signing, Achraf Hakimi, who once again caused havoc!

The Moroccan international emerged on the right to send a low cross that was pushed away by the opposition goalkeeper. Ander Herrera was on hand to head the ball home, and Kylian Mbappé made sure (1-0, 20').
The Spaniard was back in the thick of it! Mbappé broke into the opposition penalty area and Rafinha's shot from the edge of the box was blocked, but Ander's goal-scoring skills were put to good use as he catapulted the ball under the bar. (2-0, 30'). And it's already three goals this season for the n°21!

The Parisians kept this lead and ended the first half with a very convincing performance against an ambitious promoted side. In the second half, it was the same again. Well protected by a strong Marquinhos, the players from the capital continued to create chances at the other end of the field. Mbappé burst through to add a third goal after getting past the opposition defence and goalkeeper (3-0, 54’).

Unstoppable, the n°7 once more opened a gap in which Idrissa Gana Gueye ran into to score with a powerful header (4-0, 65'). And while his men were calmly running the game, Mauricio Pochettino took the opportunity to introduce his new recruit to the Parc des Princes, as Nuno Mendes came on to play the end of the game.

Without showing any signs of shaking, Paris finally finished the game with an impressive scoreline (4-0), continuing their perfect record with 5 wins in 5 matches. A great victory that allows the club from the capital to keep their place at the top of the league before turning their eyes towards the Champions League. See you on Wednesday for the opening of the European competition, against Bruges.
