Paris to take on Rennes in Cup semi

Paris Saint-Germain will take on Stade Rennais FC in the Coupe de France semi-final on Wednesday 3 April at 21:10 CET at the Parc des Princes.

Winners of the Coupe de France 14 times (1982, 1983, 1993, 1995, 1998, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021, a French record), Paris Saint-Germain qualified for the final four after a 9-0 win over US Revel (R1) in the round of 64 and 4-1 win over US Orléans (N1) in the round of 32, then came the 3-1 win over Stade Brestois 29 (L1) in the round of 16 and, finally, the 3-1 triumph over OGC Nice in the quarters. The Ligue 1 leaders will host the current 8th-placed side in Ligue 1, who have lifted the trophy three times themselves (1965, 1971 and 2019), and who reached the last four by beating EA Guingamp (L2) 2-0, Olympique de Marseille (L1) 1-1 (9-8 on pens), FC Sochaux-Montbéliard (N1) 6-1 and Le Puy Football 43 Auvergne (N2) 3-1 in the quarter-finals.

Prior to the 2019 final between the two sides, won by SRFC (2-2, 6-5 on pens, 27/04/2019 at the Stade France), the two clubs had met four times in the competition, with Les Rouge et Bleu qualifying four times: 2-0 on 14/02/1981 in the round of 64, 3-1 a.e.t on 15/01/1995 in the round of 64 at the Parc des Princes, 4-0 on 01/02/2017 in the round of 32 and 6-1 on 07/01/2018 in the round of 64 at Roazhon Park.

Paris and Rennes have already met twice in Ligue 1 this season. The capital club won 3-1 on 08/10/2023 in Brittany, thanks to goals from Vitinha (32’), Achraf Hakimi (36’) and Randal Kolo Muani (58’) while Amine Gouiri netted for the home side (56’). The two sides then drew 1-1 on 25/02/2024 in Paris, with a Gonçalo Ramos penalty (90+7’) cancelling out Gouiri’s opener (33’).
