Paris Saint-Germain raise €100,000 for Action Contre la Faim in the fight against Coronavirus

Paris Saint-Germain is strengthening its support for Action Contre La Faim (ACF, Action Against Hunger in English) with the club donating €100,000 to the charity. The sum will allow ACF to provide staff and volunteers with personal protective equipment so that they can continue to work with the most vulnerable people and children in France and abroad.

This equipment includes 100,000 surgical masks, 3,000 protective goggles, 1,500 reusable gloves, 1,000 protective gowns, 2,000 alcohol gels and 200 thermometers helping ACF to continue screening and treating malnourished children. The Parc des Princes has served as ACF’s support base since the beginning of the health crisis, with charity staff teaming up with volunteers from the Parisian club to make, assemble and store hygiene kits and health equipment for those most at risk.

Nasser al-Khelaïfi, Chairman and CEO of Paris Saint-Germain said: "Faced with this indiscriminate pandemic, ACF’s wide-ranging work in many fields is more essential than ever. We have been working with ACF for over two years now and it is our duty to support them. I wanted the money raised to be used for specific projects in France and also abroad, particularly in affected regions in Africa, Asia and the Middle East where ACF has been present for many years. This additional equipment will enable them to work more comfortably.”

Jean-François Riffaud, CEO of Action Contre La Faim France, added: "ACF teams are on the frontline of the epidemic, and we have adapted our operations in France to help those who need it most, as well as boosting the capacity of our international teams to limit the spread of the virus. It is crucial for us to be able to continue our operations so that everyone can work in safety. I would like to thank Paris Saint-Germain for this vital donation and for the club’s continuing commitment alongside us".

In the Greater Paris region over 2,000 people including 400 children have already benefited from personal hygiene and household kits as well as specific packs for babies, which have been produced by ACF teams at the Parc des Princes since the start of the lockdown. These kits, which will be expanded to meet children's needs in the coming weeks, are distributed by the charity and their partners to those most in need.

Worldwide, the Covid-19 pandemic has affected over 190 countries and ACF is adapting to the crisis, ensuring that the charity’s activities continue and responding appropriately. Aid will be directed towards the most at risk groups, such as refugee camps in Bangladesh and Jordan, as well as in the Central African Republic and Madagascar where the Paris Saint-Germain Foundation visited last year as part of ongoing commitments. Emergency programmes are continuing throughout the world, with reinforced infection prevention and control measures in addition to emergency health and nutrition response programmes for the most affected groups, especially children.

Launched in mid-April, the fundraising campaign on psg.fr continues to fund other campaigns such as Greater Paris University Hospitals (AP-HP), Secours Populaire Français, Action Contre La Faim and the Club's charity partners.
