Paris lose in Nice

Paris Saint-Germain were beaten by OGC Nice in the 27th round of Ligue 1 (1-0). Here is a look back at the match.

A week after the victory against Saint-Etienne, Paris Saint-Germain travelled to the south of France to play a top of the table clash against OGC Nice. Without Kylian Mbappé, Mauricio Pochettino knew he was facing a tough home side looking to take all three points from the game.

The Parisian coach knew that Christophe Galtier's men, who have the best defence in the league, were going to give the Parisians a hard time, after two games played against them this season without a win. Nice managed to stop the Parisians once again.

They did this by playing high up the pitch, which could be seen with Amine Gouiri's first attempts (2', 6'), and then retreating to defend in a compact block, as the tide started to turn with the first chances from Di Maria (8') and Neymar Jr (10'), which were stopped by Benitez. The game was on a knife edge, between the possession of the ball by the Parisians and the persistence of the home side to close the spaces. Playing in a 4-4-2, it was difficult to get in behind the home team's defence in what was a tight first half.

After the break, the game remained balanced and intense, with the Red and Blue showing their defensive strength to counter the repeated assaults from Les Aiglons. It was at the other end of the field where the inspiration seemed to be lacking. Although Mauricio Pochettino's men created chances, such as the attempt from Mauro Icardi late on, they could not turn them into a goal. In the end, it was Les Aiglons who had success on their side. The hosts found the breakthrough in the closing minutes after a quick break was finished by Andy Delort  (1-0, 88').

With this defeat against a tough Nice side, the league leaders end their unbeaten run against the new runners-up. But Paris Saint-Germain won't have time to reflect on this as they travel to Spain on Wednesday for a big game against Real Madrid.
