Paris leave it late to get first win!

Paris Saint-Germain had only one goal on Wednesday evening: to get their first points of the Ligue 1 season! Mission accomplished for Thomas Tuchel's men against FC Metz courtesy of a 1-0 victory.

Paris hosted Metz in this rescheduled Week 1 clash (originally scheduled on the day of the Champions League final), without a number of absentees (non-qualification, injured and suspensions). The coach could however, count on the return of Mauro Icardi as well as Marquinhos, who was officially inducted as the new captain for the occasion.

The players from the capital set the tone from the outset, playing high up the pitch to put the visitors under pressure. And Les Rouge et Bleu had plenty of chances through Angel Di Maria (3', 4', 8'), Mauro Icardi (4', 12', 32') and Pablo Sarabia (13', 32') without making the breakthrough.

The Parisians tried everything they could to break FC Metz, led by the irrepressible Di Maria, who operated tirelessly between the lines create chances for his teammates. He produced a wonderful pass for Julian Draxler in the 37th minute - denied by Oukidja. Thomas Tuchel's men multiplied the attacks to push the visitors back, but they lacked that little bit of luck to translate it into goals.

Frustrations continued to mount when Abdou Diallo was sent off for a second yellow card midway through the second half (65'). Les Rouge et Bleu stepped back on the gas to net the winner: Mauro Icardi (77') and Angel Di Maria (78'), both brought the best out of Oukidja. And the game ticked over into stoppage time.

Juan Bernat had to leave the field with injury and his side with just nine men for the last ten minutes. Finally, in the 93rd minute, Paris Saint-Germain launched one final attack that began with breath-taking control from Di Maria. His cross towards Icardi was palmed out by Oukidja and Draxler was on hand to head the ball home (1-0, 90+3'). The final whistle confirmed a stirring first win of the season for the nine men of the capital.
