Paris honoured at the end of season awards
Neymar Jr named Ligue 1 Player of the Year, Kylian Mbappé named Young Player of the Year, Unai Emery named Coach of the Year and no-less than seven players appearing in the Best XI... The champions were the toast of the town at the end of season awards.
NEYMAR JR: LIGUE 1 PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar Jr received the UNFP trophy for Ligue 1 Player of the Year after beating fellow nominees Edinson Cavani, Kylian Mbappé, and Marseille's Florian Thauvin.
It is a record eighth time a Paris Saint-Germain player received the award after David Ginola in 1993-94, Vincent Guérin in 1994-95, Marco Simone in 1997-98, Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2015-16 and Edinson Cavani in 2016-17).
"I want to thank my teammates," Neymar Jr told PSG TV. "I am very happy and with our season and this is a great honour. Without my teammates I could never have won this award."
KYLIAN MBAPPÉ: LIGUE 1 YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé received the UNFP trophy for Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year. It is the second consecutive year the young France international has won the award and the third time for a Paris Saint-Germain player after Mamadou Sakho in 2010-11 and Marco Verratti in 2013-14.
"I am very happy, very proud to have won this award for the second time," he said to PSG TV. "It is a reward for all the hard work throughout the year. I want to thank everyone that helped me win this award and I hope I can continue like this."
UNAI EMERY: LIGUE 1 COACH OF THE YEAR
Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery received the UNFP trophy for Ligue 1 Coach of the Year. It is the first time a Spanish coach has won the award and the fourth time a Paris Saint-Germain coach has been recognised after Carlo Ancelotti in 2012-13 and Laurent Blanc in 2014-15 and 2015-16.
"I am very pleased to be here this evening," the coach told PSG TV. "This award caps off a great season for Paris Saint-Germain. I would like to thank my coaching staff as well as all the coaches in Ligue 1 who have always shown me so much respect."
SEVEN PARISIANS IN THE LIGUE 1 TEAM OF THE YEAR
Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Dani Alves, Marco Verratti, Kylian Mbappé, Neymar Jr and Edinson Cavani were all named in the 2017-18 Ligue 1 Team of the Year. Thiago Silva and Marco Verratti established a new record by appearing for the sixth consecutive season. It was a third time for the Uruguay international, after 2013-14 and 2016-17. Kylian Mbappé was in the side for the second year in a row while there were debut appearances for Marquinhos, Dani Alves and Neymar Jr.
