Paris continue their journey in the Coupe de France

Three days after beating Lille (0-2) in Ligue 1, Paris headed to Pau to play in the Round of 16 of the Coupe de France. A look back over Les Parisien's victory (0-2).

Thomas Tuchel started the game with a vastly changed starting eleven at the Stade du Hameau. But from the very get go, Les Parisiens took no time at all to add intensity into their duels.

Apart from an early chance in the Pau box - a Julian Draxler free-kick boxed away by Guendouz (8') - the first quarter of an hour mainly allowed both sides to take measure of each other. Between set piece situations and counter attacks, Pau used every weapon in their arsenal in order to try to unsettle the Paris players. Paris, on the other hand, looked to get the ball down and break down the Pau defence. With this clash of styles, the tone was set for the game.

The first sign of light came after a smart team move. Leandro Paredes took full advantage of a Mauro Icardi pass to get his left foot onto the ball and bury an unstoppable effort into the back of the net (0-1, 25'). His very first goal for the club, capping off his first game as captain of the club from the Capital. After an effort from Ander Herrera, a volley from Layvin Kurzawa which just missed the target (35'), and a deflected effort from Sarabia (36') later, it was with a marginal lead that Les Parisiens headed into the box at half-time.

The same configuration remained in place during the second half. Paris Saint-Germain continued to dominate the encounter against a minnow, determined to show agression across the pitch. It was the Red and Blues, however, that would get the next goal at the perfect moment. From a move that was started by Leandro Paredes, Mauro Icardi's cross was poorly cleared. Pablo Sarabia was well placed and made no mistake, beating Guendouz from close-range (0-2, 53') to score his fourth goal in three matches in the Coupe de France.

Of course the home side then tried to launch a comeback. Yankuba Jarju found himself alone in front of goal, but was off balance as he tried to control and wasn't able to beat Rico (67'). The same man saw a header cleared by Icardi (70'). For the visitors, Dagba (knee injury) Herrera and Choupo-Moting all made way and were replaced by Michel Bakker, Marco Verratti and Idrissa Gueye, and allowed Les Parisiens to quieten their hosts in the final 10 minutes of the game.

After a professional performance against a valiant home side, the Red and Blues ensured their ticket in the quarter final draw of this Coupe de France. An 18th consecutive game without any defeat in a particularly busy schedule, and coach Tuchel's side can now finally head back to the Capital, where Les Parisiens will host Montpellier this weekend in Week 22 of Ligue 1.
