Paris begin pre-season with a win

In their first match of pre-season ahead of the 2023-2024 campaign, Paris Saint-Germain beat Le Havre 2-0 at the Campus PSG, on Friday 21 July 2023.

After discovering the Campus PSG as they returned for pre-season, Les Parisiens were in action there for their first friendly of the summer. They would face the Champions of Ligue 2, Le Havre, who will face Paris Saint-Germain on the domestic front again this season.

New faces, returning players, connections to be established, and Luis Enrique's first match. The match against Le Havre would provide an opportunity to kick off the new season, and the Red and Blues dominated both possession and the number of chances created, with the visitors preferring to camp out in their own half.

It took until the second half for Les Parisiens to break down their opponents, thanks to Hugo Ekitike, after he was played in 1-on-1. The goalkeeper got down to the first effort, before seeing the Paris Saint-Germain forward slide the ball home into an open net (1-0, 53').

With a host of changes in the second half, and ahead of his side's trip to Japan, Luis Enrique gave game time to nearly all of his squad. And it was Kylian Mbappé who ensured that any suspense was quashed in the closing stages of the match, after a smart one-two with Cher Ndour, before the Frenchman finished at the near post (2-0, 90+1').

Next up: Japan, with another pre-season friendly on the cards against Al-Nassr on Tuesday 25 July, at 12:20 (CEST). An encounter that will also be broadcast live on PSG TV Premium.
