Paris are irresistible

The context
After seven straight wins, PSG headed to the French Riviera with Mbappé and Co. looking to bring a rejuvenated Nice side, which had won three of its last four matches, down to Earth.

The key moments
Despite having made six changes to the starting XI that had beaten Reims in midweek, Thomas Tuchel must have recognised his team as they quickly seized control at the Allianz Riviera. The French champions started strongly: Angel di Maria hit a post (11') and Malang Sarr blocked a goal bound effort on the line with his back (!) as the visitors pressed (15'). The hosts could do nothing about Neymar Jr's delicious curling shot from 20 metres that opened the scoring (0-1, 22') though. Patrick Vieira's side tried to respond, notably using the pace of Allan Saint-Maximin, but Mbappé's speed also caused the hosts problems, and only VAR ruled out a second 'Ney' goal after he had been set up by his pacy young teammate (43').

Paris did not hang around after the restart. Just 40 seconds in, Mbappé again made inroads, and Christopher Nkunku fired home his first league goal of the season (0-2, 46'). Despite the emergence of Mario Balotelli from the bench at the break, Nice were struggling, and their lives became more difficult still when Wylan Cyprien was dismissed (58'). Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting had another goal ruled out (78') before Neymar Jr - teed up by Mbappé - added the third (0-3, 90+2') to ensure Paris picked up an eighth successive win and have scored at least three times in every game.

A Parisian in the match: Neymar Jr
Line it up, apply yourself, finish it: Ney's opener had it all. The Brazilian magician scored twice in Nice to take his season's tally to seven and his career Ligue 1 total to 26. Add in the 15 assists he has registered, and he has been involved in 41 goals in 27 French top-flight appearances.

The word: Record-holders
Make it eight! Thiago Silva (in his 250th appearance for Paris) and his teammates have made history by equalling the record of eight straight wins from the start of a top-flight season that had been held by Olympique Lillois since 1936/37. Another win against Olympique Lyonnais a week on Sunday, and the honour will be all theirs…
