Paris and Leipzig can't be separated!
In their second friendly of the 2024-2025 pre-season, Paris Saint-Germain drew against RB Leipzig after a hard-fought game (1-1). Here's a recap of the match!
Three days after a trip to Austria, where our Parisians returned with a draw full of lessons against Sturm Graz (2-2), the club from the capital headed to Germany this Saturday for another friendly against RB Leipzig.
For this outing, Luis Enrique brought along several key players who had rejoined the squad and put together a fresh, new starting eleven, highlighted by the inclusion of Willian Pacho, the new Ecuadorian signing. Time for the match begin!
Under the scorching Leipzig sun, in an atmosphere worthy of the most intense European nights, our Rouge et Bleu didn’t have much time to settle in. The hosts took the lead as early as the 13th minute, with Lois Openda sending the RB Arena into pandemonium (1-0, 13'). Caught off guard in the blistering heat, the club from the capital's players deserved credit for their immediate response using the Enrique method: regain control of the game, patiently advance up the pitch, and pose a constant attacking threat by exploiting every possible avenue. With 5 Parisian shots by half-time, the strategy was quietly taking shape—now it was just a matter of turning theory into practice!
After the break, the visitors were going to need to be more cunning to find a breakthrough at the other end of the pitch. Lee Kang-In (52') and Carlos Soler (54') managed to get their shots on target, but luck wasn’t on their side just yet. To shift into a higher gear, Luis Enrique relied on several reinforcements, including speedsters Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembélé and Nuno Mendes, as well as Joao Neves, Marquinhos, Gonçalo Ramos, and the young Mayulu, all of whom came on for the second half. The Spanish coach’s substitutions paid off, as the last two combined for the equaliser, with the Portuguese player capitalising on the Titi’s assist to send a shot into Vandervoordt’s top corner (1-1, 70').
And while the chances kept the stadium buzzing (with Ramos nearly scoring a second goal), the match ended 1-1. This game was primarily an opportunity for Luis Enrique to fine-tune his tactics, integrate new faces, and start building momentum for his squad. The next challenge is already set: next weekend, the reigning champions will return to competition in Ligue 1, with a match in Le Havre.
