Painful lesson

Another young Paris Saint-Germain team was given its chance by Thomas Tuchel for the International Champions Cup 2018 encounter with Arsenal.

In the Singapore night, it was a youthful Paris side that pushed forward early with Toufiqui going close to Leno's top corner (9'). In a 3-4-3, Paris started well, but Arsenal boss Unai Emery brought out the big guns and Aubameyang's burst forward ended with Özil opening the scoring (1-0, 13'). Paris needed Buffon to keep out Iwobi (23'), Aubameyang (29'à and Mkhitaryan (44'), making six saves in all in the first half while Weah - with a fierce drive (34') and a cheeky back heel (39') - caused trouble at the opposite end.

Buffon and Weah provide spark

Weah continued after the break, bringing about the penalty that allowed Nkunku to equalise from the spot (1-1, 60'). Parity did not last long though as Diarra (2-1, 67') and Lacazette (3-1, 71') gave Arsenal the upper hand. Thomas Tuchel significantly shuffled his pack after the break, notably giving Lo Celso a return to competition (68'). Holding (4-1, 87') and Nketiah (5-1, 90+3') added two more in the dying minutes as the English side cantered home.

While waiting for the players who featured for their countries at the World Cup to return, it is likely another young side will face Atletico Madrid on the same pitch for Paris' third and final ICC 2018 game on Monday.
