Nuno Mendes: a look back at a successful first season

In his first season in the Rouge et Bleu, Nuno Mendes has been a major component of Mauricio Pochettino's squad. A great year for the Portuguese international who discovered Ligue 1 and the Champions League in a Parisian shirt. Here is a look back at our number 25's season, now contracted to the club from the capital until 2026.

"I felt at home straight away" , these are Nuno Mendes' words to PSG TV. Throughout the 2021-2022 season, the young Portuguese (19) has made the left flank his own. He is the youngest player in the squad to have played at least 10 games this season. He was immediately embraced by the Parc des Princes and is enjoying his first experience at Paris Saint-Germain.

He is one of the most used players this season under his coach. He managed to have the eighth most playing time of the whole squad with 2,406 minutes spent on the pitch. His physicality and silky left foot have definitely convinced the coach and his staff. He finished the year as the seventh most games played (37) and the eighth most starts (27). A consistency that is unfailing and associated with very good performances on the field.

The Parisian number 25 is not satisfied with his first season in the Rouge et Bleu: "Of course, I want to play every match! I didn't play the entirety of the games I appeared in but each time I played, I gave everything. I think I have developed as a player. That's my goal." As well as being solid defensively, winning more than half of his duels in all competitions, Nuno was also decisive going forward with two assists to his name.

The Parisian left-back also got his first taste of Europe's elite level. With eight appearances, seven of which were as a starter, he was immediately able to get to grips with the prestigious Champions League. A first year full of promise for the Lisbon-born player who reaffirmed his ambitions with the club from the capital: "I also came here to make a mark at Paris Saint-Germain. It started this year, and I hope to continue to give joy to the club, with more championships, more titles. That's what I try to do every time I play for the club."

Paris Saint-Germain have made the right decision by lifting the option to buy the young Portuguese prodigy, and history will be written together.
