New record for Paris!

The context
Back after a few days in Doha where they were able to prepare in ideal conditions, Thomas Tuchel's men were back at the Parc des Princes on Saturday against an En Avant Guingamp side that had knocked them out of the Coupe de la Ligue quarter-finals just ten days earlier (1-2). It was a chance for Thiago Silva & Co. to take revenge.

The key moments
Tuchel had said it in his pre-match press conference the previous day: the Parisians would have to put in all their energy to attack a Breton side camped in their own half. The visitors held out until Dani Alves brilliantly undid them with a diagonal ball to find Neymar Jr. The Brazilian genius did the rest: control on the chest, little touch to wrongfoot Jordan Ikoko and an unerring close-range finish to open the floodgates (1-0, 11'). Alves was also involved in freeing Thilo Kehrer, whose cross was just a whisker away from finding Edinson Cavani (24').

It was then Kylian Mbappé's turn - sent clear by Neymar Jr - to threaten. He broke clear and rounded Marc-Aurèle Caillard in the Guingamp goal, but was forced wide and his cross was cleared before it could reach Neymar Jr (36'). He wouldn't make the same mistake when - after a one-two with Neymar Jr - he bent a shot into the corner (2-0, 37'). Pressed into a mistake by Cavani, Eboa Eboa's attempted clearance landed at Mbappé's feet inside the penalty area, and there was only going to be one outcome...(3-0, 45').

After the restart, Cavani made his telling contribution. Paris Saint-Germain's all-time leading score connected with Juan Bernat's cross to make it four (4-0, 59'), and the Uruguay international striker then grabbed his 100th goal at the Parc des Princes, heading home from point-blank range after good work between Angel Di Maria and the impressive Neymar Jr (5-0, 66')! But Paris weren't finished there. A minute later, Mbappé picked out Neymar Jr and he beat his man before slotting home number six (6-0, 68').

The Paris juggernaut kept powering on. When Layvin Kurzawa's boss was parried by Caillard, Cavani snapped up the loose ball to complete his hat-trick (7-0, 76'). Cavani then teed up Mbappé to complete his own triple (8-0, 80'), before Thomas Meunier slotted a shot between the goalkeeper's legs to set a new club record home win (9-0, 83').

A Parisian in the match: Edinson Cavani
With his hat-trick, Cavani passed the milestone of a century of goals at the Parc des Princes. He also put in his usual lung-bursting display in tracking back, notably racing 30 metres to dispossess Etienne Didot. He was the man pressing Eboa Eboa into the mistake that allowed Mbappé to score his second, and Cavani teed up the France striker for his third. An awesome all-round display.

The word: Record
After the Coupe de la Ligue loss, Paris wanted to make amends. They did, and how! The Rouge-et-Bleu beat their previous best home win (8-0 against Dijon on 17 January 2018) and equalled their 9-0 win at Troyes in 2016.
