Navas, safe hands

Honours, experience, reputation... Paris Saint-Germain's new goalkeeper boasts some impressive qualities. Let's take a closer look...

Of course it was in his homeland Costa Rica, that Keylor Navas began his football career. A huge fan of Lester Morgan, the goalkeeper of Los Ticos, the young Keylor decided he too would wear the gloves.

He joined Deportivo Saprissa and made his professional debut on 6 November 2005. In five seasons with the club from San José, the man from San Isidro won six championships and one CONCACAF Champions Cup, in his last season in Costa Rica in 2005.

His performances saw him lured to Europe, and Spain more precisely, where he signed for Albacete Balompié in the second division. He played 36 matches in two seasons before joining Levante in La Liga where he made 70 appearances.

In the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Navas played a starring role as Costa Rica made the quarter-finals. Real Madrid came knocking as they looked for a successor to none other than Iker Casillas!

Navas enjoyed great success in the Spanish capital: one La Liga crown in 2016-17 and three UEFA Champions League triumphs in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Each time his contribution was massive.

Technically brilliant, comfortable with both feet and playing out on the ground, incredible reflexes and a rock solid mentality, the Costa Rica star has all the attributes you'd expect from one of the best 'keepers in the world.

The goals at the Parc des Princes are in safe hands!
