Messi's Argentina secures top spot

By beating Poland at Stadium 974 in Doha, Lionel Messi’s Argentina made it through to the last 16 of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

A few days after their 2-0 win over Mexico in their second game of the tournament, Argentina had the chance to go through to the next round and finish top of Group C by beating Poland. It was mission accomplished for Lionel Scaloni's men, who breezed past Robert Lewandowski and co. with another 2-0 victory.

With that win, La Albiceleste secured top spot in their group and will face Australia in the last 16.

Having once again started as the captain of his side, Leo Messi played the entirety of the game against the Orły. Paris's no. 30, who has already scored twice at this year's World Cup, was matched on this occasion by Wojciech Szczęsny, who put in a stellar performance in goal.
