Messi scores and wins with Argentina against Mexico

Lionel Messi's Argentina beat Mexico 2-0 in the second match of the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup. The match took place at the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Lusail.

A few days after the defeat against Saudi Arabia in their opening game of the competition, the Argentinians were keen to make a good impression against Mexico.

Leo Messi, who captained his team at kick-off, took charge of the game on two occasions. The Parisian striker first opened the scoring for the Albiceleste after the hour mark (64'). The striker then turned provider and set up the breakthrough goal (87') for the newcomer Enzo Fernandez, giving his team a 2-0 victory.

With this goal, the Parisian number 30 equalled Diego Maradona in the list of Argentina's top scorers at a World Cup, with only Gabriel Batistuta (10 goals) doing better.

With this victory, Scaloni's men have also completely revived their chances of qualification, but will have to confirm this in their final match on Wednesday, against Robert Lewandowski's Poland.
