Mbappé: ‘I dreamed of this moment’

A delighted Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappé was awarded the first-ever Raymond Kopa Trophy Ballond’Or for U21 Player of the Year before speaking to PSG TV.

The first-ever Kopa Trophy is yours! How do you feel?
I’m very proud of course because it means we have made a little mark on history. That’s why we play football, to enjoy ourselves, to win and to make history. It’s also one of the reason why we have to keep working hard to help my teammates to keep winning and do my very best to help Paris Saint-Germain.

You finished fourth in the senior Ballon d’Or voting, just in front Léo Messi... Three years ago, could you have ever imagined reaching this level?
I dreamed of moments like these, like every kid… I did everything I could to get here. The hardest thing is not getting here, it’s staying here. I have to keep working, keep improving.

The Paris Saint-Germain Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaïfi called you...
Yes, he sent me a message. It’s nice to know that the Chairman is following you and knows what’s happening. I thank him for that and thank everyone at Paris Saint-Germain.

You speak a lot of your teammates... you haven’t lost sight of the fact that football is a team sport…
Of course! None of this could happen without them. We say it all the time, but without your teammates you are nothing. They are the ones that enable you to perform at your best, to show your talent. That’s why I thank them and I know how good they are.
